About the Location

History and Origins

Little Stacy Neighborhood Park is a 6.73-acre green space located in the Travis Heights-Fairview Park neighborhood of Austin, Texas. The park was established in 1929 when the City of Austin purchased the land from the Stacy Realty Company for $17,150.

Natural Setting

Situated at a distinctive horseshoe bend of Blunn Creek, Little Stacy Park is characterized by its heavily wooded areas and a large central field. The park serves as the northern end of the Blunn Creek Greenbelt, which connects to Big Stacy Park and Pool at its southern terminus.

Historic Architecture

A notable feature of Little Stacy Park is its shelter house, constructed in 1930. This one-story stucco structure, designed in the Mission Revival style, features two square rooms connected by a flat roof, decorative tile work, and wrought iron grillwork over the window openings.

The shelter house was traditionally used for performances and games, and remains a central element of the park's character.

Recreational Amenities

The park includes a small wading pool dating back to the 1930s, which has become a popular spot for families during the hot Texas summers. Other recreational facilities include tennis courts, a volleyball court, a basketball half-court, and a playground that caters to children of various ages.

Neighborhood Significance

Little Stacy Neighborhood Park is not just a recreational space but also an important part of the neighborhood's history and character. Its curved streets, large lots, and extensive trees and landscaping reflect the influence of the City Beautiful Movement on the area's development from the 1880s through the 1950s.
