About the Location

Natural Setting

Prax Orive Jr. Park is located in Central Brownsville, Texas, on Palm Boulevard near the Historic City Cemetery. The park, formerly known as Sunrise Rotary Park, offers a peaceful retreat from the urban environment.

It encompasses a portion of Town Resaca, which serves as a sanctuary for various bird species not typically found in a city setting. The park's location along Town Resaca offers visitors an opportunity to observe local wildlife and enjoy the tranquility of the water feature.

Historical Significance

The park plays a significant role in preserving local history. In December 2009, the Rotary Club of Brownsville dedicated a Great Western Cattle Trail marker at the park.

This historic cattle trail was crucial in Texas's economic recovery and the establishment of the state's ranching and livestock industries following the Civil War. The 620-mile trail extended from the Red River to the Rio Grande River, with an estimated 7 million head of cattle driven along it.

Community Value

Prax Orive Jr. Park provides a unique blend of natural beauty and historical significance, making it an important green space within Brownsville's urban landscape.
