About the Location

Get Moving & Play

Wrap around the park on a 1/4 mile jogging track that winds through this natural oasis - meant for those morning walks or evening runs. Along the path, you'll come across several exercise machines strategically placed for an impromptu outdoor workout session. Got kids in tow? The playground offers some fun equipment including a merry-go-round, though we'll admit some swings would make it even better (maybe someday?).

Beyond the dedicated facilities, you can find plenty of open lawn areas where you can spread out a blanket, toss a frisbee, or practice your soccer skills. These green spaces are ideal for casual games or just lounging with a good book.

Practical Park Perks

When nature calls, you're covered with restroom facilities for both men and women (just note they close at 10 PM). Around the grounds, you'll discover multiple picnic areas with benches where you can enjoy lunch or simply take a breather under the shade trees.

Dog parents will appreciate the thoughtfully placed trash receptacles for pet waste along the walking paths, making your daily dog walks more convenient.

Natural Beauty

Spanning 11 acres, one of the park's true highlights is its beautiful resaca - a former channel of the Rio Grande River that now is a haven for shore birds and Neo-tropical migrants. If you're into birdwatching, head to the natural habitat berm area where you might spot everything from local species to colorful parrots.

The newer butterfly gardens add both beauty and ecological value to the park, creating little pockets of color and life that change with the seasons. Behind the scenes, drip stations help maintain these lush green spaces and gardens, while mature shade trees provide welcome relief on hot Texas days.

Finding Your Way

This green oasis (formerly known as Chachalaca Park) is easy to reach from several directions - either from Central Avenue or Clubhouse Road via Boca Chica Boulevard, or alternatively from Port Isabel Highway. It's a refreshing green zone nestled right in Brownsville's suburban landscape, offering a natural retreat without having to venture far from home.
