About Williams Park in Dallas
Williams Park is a public green space located in University Park, a city within Dallas County, Texas. The park is situated across the street from City Hall and adjacent to Goar Park. Named in honor of Mayor Elbert Williams and his son Duval on March 6, 1939, the park has been providing recreational opportunities for generations of residents and visitors.
The park features a variety of amenities spread across its grounds. A key attraction is the playground, which has recently been upgraded with a poured rubber surface, eliminating the need for wood chips and providing a splinter-free play area. The playground now includes equipment for both younger children and those aged 5-12, expanding its appeal to a wider age range.
Williams Park incorporates natural elements into its landscape, including a section of Turtle Creek that forms a pond within the park boundaries. This water feature not only adds to the park's aesthetic appeal but also serves as a habitat for various fish species and waterfowl. A fishing pier located on the east side of the pickleball courts allows visitors to engage in recreational fishing.
The park's layout includes open green spaces suitable for casual sports and picnicking. Walking and jogging trails wind through the park, offering opportunities for exercise and leisurely strolls. For those interested in more structured activities, the park provides pickleball courts, which are lighted for evening play.
A unique feature of Williams Park is the LOVE sculpture, created by renowned artist Robert Indiana. Installed in early 2019 on the south side of the park's island, this artwork adds a cultural dimension to the park's offerings and serves as a popular photo spot for visitors.
Williams Park continues to be an integral part of the University Park community, blending recreational facilities with natural beauty and artistic elements to create a multifaceted public space for all to enjoy.
