North Lakes Park

Park Overview

At 351 acres, North Lakes Park is one of the more expansive green spaces in Denton, Texas, and you can find it on W. Windsor Drive about 3.2 miles from the Denton Square. That size means there's a bit of everything here - peaceful nature trails, buzzing sports fields, and plenty of room to spread out.

One thing that stands out is how well-maintained the grounds are. The park's cleanliness makes it a welcoming spot whether you're bringing the kids, meeting friends, or just looking for some solo time in nature.

Natural Features

The two lakes at the heart of the park really set the scene. They're not just pretty to look at (though they definitely are) - they're also great spots for fishing. If you're patient, you might reel in some bass or catfish like other park-goers have.

Winding around the lakes and across the park are both concrete and soft-surface trails. There's a nicely marked path that loops for about a mile - well-suited for a casual stroll or a morning jog without having to track your distance.

If you're into native plants, you'll love the wildflower trails and pollinator prairie. These areas showcase local flora and create homes for all sorts of wildlife. It's a little slice of Texas nature right in the city.

Sports Facilities

The park features a comprehensive sports complex that's well-maintained. Multiple fields cater to baseball, softball, and soccer enthusiasts, giving local teams and casual players plenty of space to play.

Disc golf fans, take note - there's a dedicated course here, with the Lakeside course being particularly enjoyable when the grass is freshly cut. You'll also find batting cages and a basketball court if you're looking to mix up your exercise routine.

Family Recreation

There are three different playgrounds for children throughout the park. There's a special area designed with toddlers in mind, while other equipment offers more challenging fun for the older kids.

When it's time to refuel, several picnic areas with tables and grills make for perfect lunch spots. Planning a larger gathering? The park's multiple pavilions can be reserved for family reunions or other get-togethers.

Recreation Center

The 17,417-square-foot North Lakes Recreation Center offers various indoor recreation options. Inside, you'll come across a cardio room, weight room, and an indoor court that accommodates basketball, volleyball, and pickleball. There are also three multi-purpose areas available to rent for various activities or events.

The park has a welcoming attitude toward dogs, but you should remember to clean up after your pet, especially on the trails. Nobody wants that surprise on their morning walk!
