A Park with Purpose: The Story Behind the Name
Patricia LeBlanc Park spans 15 acres in Fort Worth, Texas, offering a green retreat from city life. While it began its journey as Hulen Bend Park during planning stages, the park was officially acquired on December 4, 1984. It later received its current name in honor of Patricia Ann LeBlanc, mother of Richard LeBlanc, who managed the Hulen Street Venture that developed the surrounding neighborhood.
Breaking Barriers with Play
In 1992, this park made headlines across the nation by becoming the first fully accessible playground in the entire country designed for children with disabilities. This wasn't just a minor update - it was a complete transformation championed by Playgrounds Unlimited, Inc., a non-profit created specifically to fund this inclusive vision. Their dedication didn't stop at construction; they established an endowment to ensure the park's upkeep for years to come.
Thoughtful Design for Everyone
What makes Patricia LeBlanc Park special are the trails designed to heighten sensory experiences, creating a space that welcomes visitors of all abilities. Located on Granbury Cut-Off Street near Oakmont Elementary School, the park features an expansive playground area with multiple play structures suitable for kids of different ages.
You'll come across interactive musical equipment around the park, but be aware these sound features occasionally need maintenance. For the sports enthusiasts, there are well-maintained tennis courts, basketball courts, a baseball field, and a cleverly designed soccer field that keeps balls from rolling into the street. Adults haven't been forgotten either - exercise equipment is available when you're in the mood for a workout.
Comfort in the Great Outdoors
Planning a gathering? The large covered pavilion provides perfect shelter for family events, making it a go-to spot for birthday parties and weekend cookouts. Within the park, you'll discover several picnic areas complete with grilling pits ready for your outdoor cooking adventures.
Keep in mind that the park offers portable restrooms rather than permanent facilities. Water fountains are available when you need to hydrate after play or exercise.
Texas heat can be intense, and fortunately, shaded areas across the park provide relief. Some parkgoers note the playground equipment could use more coverage, but the park's magnificent trees provide natural shade and add to the beauty of the space.

Patricia LeBlanc Park serves southwest Fort Worth with its pioneering inclusive design that accommodates diverse physical abilities. The spacious layout offers ample room for various activities, from casual frisbee tosses to organized sports.
You'll typically find the park buzzing with families, especially during daylight hours. With its wide range of facilities and play options, Patricia LeBlanc Park is popular among families with children of all ages and abilities, reflecting its thoughtful, inclusive design.
