About the Location
Park Features
The park spans approximately 77 acres and features two miles of paved trails that wind through wetlands, ponds, and natural areas. The greenbelt runs from Teel Parkway under the Dallas North Tollway to Wakeland High School.
Visitors can enjoy activities such as walking, jogging, and wildlife viewing. The park features platforms for fishing and observing wildlife in their natural habitat.
Natural Environment
The ecosystem within Cottonwood Creek Greenbelt includes off-channel ponds, Blackland Prairie, and wetlands. It sits in a floodplain that incorporates a floodway.
To maintain its natural state, the park is preserved with minimal intervention, with mowing limited to about four to six feet on either side of the trail to maintain open meadows.
Recognition & Significance
In 2018, the park was recognized by the Texas Recreation and Park Society (TRAPS), winning a statewide award for the best park design in its population category.
The greenbelt serves as an important natural corridor in the rapidly developing city of Frisco, providing habitat for local flora and fauna while offering residents a chance to connect with nature close to home.
