About the Location
A Medical Center Oasis
Gus S. and Lyndall F. Wortham Park is a 1.2-acre green space located at the intersection of South Main Street and Holcombe Boulevard in the heart of the Texas Medical Center in Houston. The park was dedicated in September 1991 and was designed by John Burgee Architects of New York City.
Stunning Water Feature
The centerpiece of Wortham Park is a 650-foot water pool featuring 23 water columns of progressively increasing heights. This fountain provides a soothing water feature in the midst of the bustling medical district.
The park was funded by a $2.5 million grant from the Wortham Foundation along with donations from three other groups.
Purpose and Visitors
Wortham Park offers a serene outdoor space for medical personnel, patients, and visitors to the Texas Medical Center to relax and take a break from the surrounding healthcare facilities. Its location at a busy intersection makes it a visible landmark and gathering place within the medical complex.
Visiting Information
The park is open to the public daily from 6AM to 11PM. However, visitors should note that there is no designated parking area for the park itself.
Those wishing to visit may need to utilize paid parking options in the surrounding Texas Medical Center area.
