About the Location
Natural Habitats
Robert C. Stuart Park spans 27 acres of diverse green space in Houston, Texas. The park features various ecosystems including ponds, prairie wetland, prairie upland, forest, and riparian forest.
This variety of habitats makes the park an excellent location for observing local flora and fauna.
Restoration Efforts
The park has undergone significant restoration work over the years. In 2016, the Natural Resources Management Program (NRMP) of the Houston Parks & Recreation Department initiated a prairie habitat restoration project.
This project involved mowing and seeding sections of the prairie to introduce more native plants. Volunteers have continued to help remove invasive species and install native vegetation.
In 2020, a Student Conservation Association Crew removed five acres of invasive species from the riparian section of the park. This area was then replanted with native tree species.
