About the Location
A Peaceful Neighborhood Retreat
Located in Irving, Texas, Rodeo Park is a 5.46-acre green space in the neighborhood. Established in 1971, this charming green space is a community gathering spot where neighbors can unwind and families can play in a safe, welcoming environment.
Connected to Nature
Rodeo Park isn't just a standalone space - it's actually part of a larger green network that includes Lincoln Park, Marine Creek Linear, and Marine Creek Linear North. This verdant corridor stretches alongside Marine Creek between North Main Street and Buck Sansom Park to the northwest, following a design philosophy similar to what S. Herbert Hare envisioned back in 1942.
Getting Better with Age
Rodeo Park has seen several improvements over the years. The playground got a fresh new look in 2008-2009, and 2013 marked the beginning of some serious upgrades. The park team replaced worn-out trail sections that didn't meet ADA standards, swapped out old chain-link fencing on backstops, and installed new dugout benches, bleachers, and ball field lighting by 2015.
The playground area has seen more recent improvements with modern equipment that's popular with neighborhood families.
Play Your Heart Out
Kids and the young-at-heart will find plenty to love at Rodeo Park. The modern playground features all the classics - swings, slides, and climbing structures - including a notable super-tall slide that's nearly three stories high. Getting to the top is half the fun, with a challenging rope course that tests even the most adventurous climbers.
The playground has a soft turf surface instead of wood chips or sand, which keeps shoes and clothes cleaner.
Active Living and Gathering Spaces
When you're ready for some friendly competition, head over to the half basketball court or the sand volleyball court for a casual game.
Need a break? The park's gazebo provides a shady spot to catch your breath, while two covered picnic tables and scattered benches within the grounds offer places to relax or enjoy a snack. There's even a BBQ grill available - just remember to bring your own charcoal or wood, and please clean the grill before and after use.
Good to Know
Since Rodeo Park is primarily designed to serve the immediate neighborhood, there's no dedicated parking lot. You can find street parking along Rodeo Drive or at a turn on Wolf Creek Drive on the west side of the park.
Note that the park doesn't have lighting for evening activities, so plan your visit during daylight hours. While you'll come across a drinking fountain to quench your thirst, there are no restroom facilities here - typical for a smaller neighborhood park like this one.
