Playground for Everyone

West Park got a serious makeover, unveiling its brand new playground in April 2021. But this isn't just any playground - it's designed with every child in mind, regardless of age, learning style, or physical ability.

The thoughtfully designed space features distinct areas for the 2-5 crowd and the 5-12 gang, with a separate toddler playground that gives the littlest adventurers their own safe space to explore. Music lovers will gravitate toward the area with a xylophone, drums, and an interactive music box - ideal for impromptu jam sessions and creative expression.

Thoughtful Touches

One of the most considerate elements is the quiet corner, a sanctuary for children with autism who might find the playground's excitement overwhelming. It's partially enclosed with plexiglass, creating a buffer from the noise and activity while still letting kids feel connected to the fun.

Kids with mobility challenges haven't been forgotten either. The park features special swing seats that are larger than standard swings and come equipped with lap bars and safety straps, allowing parents to secure their children safely for a bit of swinging joy.

Play Your Way

For the thrill-seekers, there's plenty to get excited about - a nearly three-story tube slide that'll make your stomach drop (in the best way), a spinning merry-go-round, an old-school seesaw, and a challenging climbing net. The vibrant colors of all the equipment create an inviting atmosphere for play.

When it's time for a breather, you'll appreciate the extensive shade coverage (over 1,800 square feet of it) and the picnic tables scattered around, giving parents and guardians comfortable spots to watch the fun unfold.

Smart Design

West Park broke new ground as Irving's first playground to use artificial turf instead of traditional materials - a practical choice that makes maintenance easier while keeping the space looking fresh year-round.

The $350,000 renovation was funded through Community Development Block Grants.

Beyond the Playground

The park's basketball courts regularly host pickup games and friendly competitions. For gatherings with friends and family, the barbecue pits scattered within the grounds make it easy to turn a day at the park into a proper social event.

The clean, well-maintained facilities deserve a special mention. With its open layout and variety of activities, West Park offers a safe space where kids can run free while adults enjoy some peaceful moments under the gently swaying trees.
