About the Location
Trail System
The Purser Heritage Hike & Bike Trail stretches 3.8 miles through Heritage Oaks Park, winding through Killeen's natural landscapes. The trail varies from 6 to 12 feet wide, giving you plenty of room whether you're out for a peaceful morning stroll, training for your next 5K, or enjoying a bike ride with the family.
As you make your way along the path, you'll cross Trimmer Creek several times via low-water crossings, adding a touch of adventure to your journey. One of the best things about this trail? The generous tree coverage providing welcome shade that makes even a Texas summer day bearable. The natural hills offer just enough variation to keep things interesting without exhausting you.
Recreational Activities
If you're into disc golf, you're in for a treat. Heritage Oaks features a disc golf course that locals rave about. No matter if you're trying the sport for the first time or you've been slinging discs for years, the well-designed course offers the right balance of challenge and fun.
Feel free to bring your rollerblades too - the paved paths are smooth enough for a good ride. Nature lovers, keep your eyes peeled! The park is home to various bird species, and if you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of deer wandering through the natural areas.
Connectivity
Heritage Oaks Park does double duty as a green space and a connector between Killeen and Harker Heights. A convenient sidewalk runs alongside the trail, linking up with Purser Park and expanding your exploration options within the regional trail network.
