About the Location
A Playground for Everyone
Chris Davidson Opportunity Park is a place where every child can play. This thoughtfully designed space ensures that kids of all abilities can have fun together - no one sits on the sidelines here.
The park is cleverly divided into four quadrants, each tailored to different age groups. You'll find a ramped play unit that's accessible to everyone, PowerScape swings that accommodate different needs, a train-themed section that encourages imagination, and a freestanding area with a shaded play unit for when the Texas sun gets intense.
What Makes This Park Special
Kids (and let's be honest, some adults too) love the newer zip lines that provide just the right amount of thrill. The climbing walls offer an ideal challenge, while the elevated pavilion gives parents a great vantage point to keep an eye on little adventurers across all four sections of the park.
The playground has equipment for different ages and abilities. From old-school favorites like teeter-totters and bouncy horses to more sensory-focused elements like flower drums and interactive sound stations - there's something to engage every child. Multiple swings and slides are scattered throughout, ensuring nobody has to wait too long for their turn.
Artificial turf with attenuation covers the play areas, making falls a lot less painful. Just a heads-up though - this turf can get pretty hot during sunny afternoons, so plan accordingly. The design follows the 7 Principles of Inclusive Playground Design, making it functional for kids with diverse needs.
The Practical Stuff
You'll appreciate the clean, air-conditioned restrooms - a must-have for family outings. Picnic tables and party areas make this a great spot for birthday celebrations or family gatherings.
The layout is spacious, giving children room to run and play while you supervise from a comfortable distance. And thank goodness for the shaded areas scattered throughout - they're absolute lifesavers during those scorching Texas days.
The Story Behind the Park
There's a heartfelt purpose behind this park. It's named after Chris Davidson, whose parents Jan and Steve learned he had muscular dystrophy when he was just four years old. In Chris's honor, they created a place where children of all abilities could play side by side.
Spanning 3.31 acres next to the Bush Tennis Center, this park is well-known in Midland and throughout West Texas.
Good to Know
While technically owned by the Bush Tennis Center, the park is completely open to the public - a true gift to the community. It's well-maintained and regularly cleaned.
The development received support from various community partners, including the Midland Development Corporation. The park welcomes visitors from 8AM-9PM Monday through Friday, and 8AM-8PM on weekends.
