About the Location
Trail System Overview
Set on 95-100 acres of West Texas landscape, Odessa Mountain Bike Park features roughly 10-11 miles of singletrack trails for mountain biking enthusiasts. The trails follow the standard color-coding system we all know and love: green for the newbies, blue for those who've been around the block, and red for the adrenaline junkies.
The terrain here is refreshingly diverse - from flat stretches where you can find your rhythm to steep climbs that'll test your lungs and technical rocky sections that demand your full attention. Two abandoned caliche pits have been incorporated into the trail system, giving the park its distinctive rugged character.
Trail Difficulty Levels
Just starting out? The 3.5-mile green trail loop wraps around the outer perimeter with gentle twists and turns on relatively flat ground. One of the coolest things about this beginner loop is how it offers little detour options - you can stick to the easier path or dip your toes into slightly more challenging sections without committing to anything too scary.
For those looking to level up, the intermediate and advanced trails weave in and out of those caliche pits we mentioned, featuring some sweet bridges, flowing berms, playful jump lines, fun rollers, and exhilarating drop zones. Sections of the advanced trails include rocky ledges and steep descents that can challenge even seasoned riders.
The red trail is where things get real - experienced riders consistently give it high marks for technical features that require skill and confidence. The unique West Texas landscape provides options for riders of different ability levels.
Park Activities
While mountain biking is the star of the show here, don't overlook this park as a solid spot for walking, trail running, or hiking. The varied terrain provides an excellent workout regardless of how you choose to enjoy it.
Bring your four-legged friend along if you'd like - the park is dog-friendly. Just remember to clean up after them so the trails stay nice for everyone. This versatility makes the park popular among outdoor enthusiasts in the Permian Basin area.
Visitor Information
The Permian Basin Bicycle Association (PBBA) manages the park, and you'll need to either pay a $5 day-use fee at the gate or show your PBBA membership. You can park near Odessa Fire Station #5, which gives you easy access to the trailhead.
A word of advice: come prepared. The desert-like environment means you should bring plenty of water and snacks. And given the mesquite-heavy surroundings that love to puncture tires, you'll want to pack repair essentials if you're cycling. Protective gear and flat repair tools aren't just suggested - they're practically a necessity.
Dedicated volunteers regularly maintain the trails, but Mother Nature occasionally has other plans - especially after heavy rains. The PBBA works hard to repair any damage and keep the trails in good shape year-round so you can enjoy all the challenges this park has to offer.
