About the Location
Natural Features
Located in Round Rock, this park features two spring-fed detention ponds that flow into a nature area - a nice escape from the everyday hustle. You can stroll along the concrete trail that hugs these ponds and connects to the Oak Brook trail area at the back of the park.
If you're looking for a longer adventure, the trails here link up with the larger Williamson County Regional Trail System, giving you plenty of options for hiking, walking, jogging, or biking. Trees dot the landscape, providing welcome shade and creating a peaceful atmosphere.
The ponds are mini ecosystems in themselves - keep an eye out for fish darting beneath the surface, turtles sunning on logs, and various birds going about their day among the reeds and branches.
Recreational Spaces
Olson Meadows has generous open spaces - good for flying kites on breezy days, tossing a frisbee, or simply spreading out a blanket for some cloud-watching. Families with kids will appreciate the two playscapes - a smaller one designed with toddlers in mind and another that offers more challenges for the older crowd. There are swings too, always a hit with the little ones.
The playground sits on a bed of wood chips and features modern equipment that's well-maintained. It's positioned near shaded areas, making it more comfortable even during Texas summer days.
For the sports enthusiasts, there are practice fields that work well for soccer or baseball. These can be reserved if your team needs a place to train, and the spacious fields can accommodate various athletic activities.
Facilities & Amenities
At the heart of the park stands a generous 54' x 37' covered pavilion that you can reserve for gatherings. Equipped with picnic tables, it's a great spot for birthday parties, family reunions, or community meet-ups.
The park has clean restrooms near the playground and parking area. Note that these facilities require a key fob that's only available to Fern Bluff Municipal Utility District (MUD) residents. There's a water fountain outside the restrooms where you can fill up your bottle before hitting the trails.
You'll discover several picnic tables scattered within the grounds, plus a gazebo that offers another nice seating option for smaller groups.
Trail System
The perimeter trail is well-maintained and suitable for walking, jogging, or cycling. It seamlessly connects to the broader regional trail network, so you can extend your outdoor time if you're feeling ambitious.
Just remember that these paths are shared spaces for cyclists and pedestrians alike, so a little courtesy goes a long way. The trails offer views of the park's natural features and can accommodate users of various fitness levels - no need to be a marathon runner to enjoy them.
Conservation Efforts
Olson Meadows includes two dedicated wildflower areas for local conservation. In spring, these patches bloom with colorful flowers.
Park Management
Spanning 54 acres, this is the largest of six parks under the care of the Fern Bluff Municipal Utility District (MUD) in Round Rock. The grounds are generally well-kept and clean, reflecting the careful attention of those who manage this community resource.
