About the Location
A Tribute to Bravery
Tucked away in Sugar Land, Texas, Ron Slockett Park spans a peaceful 8.6 acres of community green space. In 1987, the park was rededicated to honor Sergeant Ron Slockett - the only Sugar Land police officer ever killed while serving his community. His sacrifice on July 4, 1987, is commemorated by a memorial plaque near the park entrance, a quiet reminder of his dedication to keeping Sugar Land safe.
Places to Play
If you're looking for a spot where the kids can burn off some energy, you're in luck. The park features a playground area where little ones can climb, slide, and let their imaginations run wild in a safe environment.
Need to stretch your legs? The 0.4-mile walking and biking trail meanders through the grounds, well-suited for morning jogs or evening strolls. The concrete walking path is smooth and well-kept, making it a favorite for daily walkers and runners looking to get their steps in.
Get Your Game On
Feeling competitive? Challenge your friends to a match at the park's tennis court or dig your toes into the sand at the volleyball court for some casual fun under the Texas sun.
When it's time to refuel, you can find three pavilions with seven picnic tables - ideal for family gatherings or birthday celebrations. There are also several covered picnic tables scattered within the park, offering shady spots to enjoy a packed lunch or catch your breath after a workout.
Good to Know
The park thoughtfully provides a drinking fountain to keep you hydrated, especially welcome during those hot Sugar Land summers. A small parking lot with 28 spaces makes access convenient, whether you're from the neighborhood or visiting from across town.
