Bicentennial Park
About Bicentennial Park
Park History and Overview
Tucked away from the bustle of State Street yet surprisingly accessible, Bicentennial Park is a 33-acre green haven established in 1976 to mark America's 200th birthday. This spacious area combines sprawling lawns, mature trees, and winding walking paths popular with families, dog lovers, and anyone needing a breath of fresh air.
Natural Wonders
What really sets this park apart is its active spring and wetlands area complete with a nature trail boardwalk that lets you get up close with the local ecosystem. The boardwalk features informative signs that tell the story of the wetland habitat surrounding you.
At the heart of Bicentennial Park sits a charming duck pond fed by the natural spring. Cross the bridge for a great spot to watch waterfowl, muskrats, and even koi fish going about their day in the water below.
The surrounding wetlands do double duty - they naturally filter water while creating a home for diverse plants and wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for birds, butterflies, and yes, occasionally snakes along the boardwalk trail.
A word of caution for summer visits: the pond and wetland areas can be mosquito magnets, so come prepared with repellent.
Get Moving
For the active crowd, the park features a 16-basket disc golf course that cleverly incorporates the natural landscape, creating challenges suitable for both beginners and experienced players.
The park hosts Provo's only off-leash dog park - a fenced area where your four-legged friends can run free. The space includes double-gated entrances for safety and a water fountain with a special dog watering station.
Kids will make a beeline for the playground with its swings, slides, climbing structures, and rock wall. Parents can take advantage of the nearby benches while keeping watch over the fun.
The park's large rolling hills aren't just pretty to look at - they're ideal for frisbee, picnics, and transform into popular sledding spots when snow blankets Provo.
Community Hub
Bicentennial Park is a popular gathering place for the community with amenities for outdoor socializing.
A covered pavilion houses about eight picnic tables for shaded get-togethers, with additional picnic spots scattered across the grounds.
Restroom facilities are available during seasonal months and are kept in good condition.
The park's proximity to residential neighborhoods makes it a convenient escape for locals, while its unique features draw visitors from across the region. With plenty of open lawn space, there's always room for impromptu games, sports, or simply sprawling out on a blanket with a good book.
