About the Location

Recreational Facilities

Nestled in the heart of Sugar House, Fairmont Park sprawls across 27.07 acres of green goodness in Salt Lake City. This park offers natural beauty and a variety of recreational options.

One of the park's highlights is its charming fishing pond (fishing license required, folks!). Surrounded by a wooden walkway, it's an excellent spot to observe nature doing its thing. You'll likely spot ducks paddling about, various birds going about their day, and if you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of crayfish, muskrats, or water snakes in their natural habitat.

Sports Amenities

For the active visitor, Fairmont features several athletic fields, including soccer fields and a half basketball court good for pickup games.

For the more gravity-defying among us, the concrete skate park offers bowls of different depths that cater to everyone from beginners just finding their balance to seasoned skaters showing off their tricks.

The park has six well-maintained pickleball courts that tend to fill up quickly, especially during evenings and weekends. There's a 4-on, 4-off rotation system in place that helps keep the wait times reasonable when it gets busy.

When summer hits, the three sand volleyball courts come alive with action and are fantastic spots to bump, set, and spike the afternoon away.

Family-Friendly Features

Got kids with energy to burn? Fairmont features two playgrounds - one on the north side and another on the south - with equipment that's particularly suited for older children.

The park's pavilions make great gathering spots for birthday parties or family picnics. Some require reservations, while others are up for grabs on a first-come basis. The largest one sits near Sugarmont Street close to the TRAX line, making it super accessible.

There are three restroom locations across the park - though fair warning: they aren't always in the best shape or consistently open when you need them.

Recreation Paths and Facilities

A jogging and walking path loops around the large field, good for exercise while enjoying the scenery. The stream flowing through the park adds a peaceful soundtrack to your stroll, with cute little bridges crossing at various points.

Fairmont is also home to the Fairmont Aquatic Center, where you can dive into various swimming programs and facilities, including an indoor pool for year-round splashing.

Dog parents will appreciate the off-leash dog park in the southeast corner. This fenced haven includes water fountains for thirsty pups, shade trees for cooling off, and some agility equipment for the more athletic canines. Just note that the surface is dirt rather than grass, so expect a dusty or muddy pup depending on the weather.

Natural Features

One of the park's best attributes is its abundance of mature shade trees, providing welcome relief on those scorching Utah summer days. The mix of open fields and tree-covered areas creates diverse spaces for everything from frisbee games to quiet reading spots.

The pond and stream system offers a tranquil water element that's well-suited for moments of reflection or simply watching the play of light on water.

Community Events

Fairmont hosts various community events throughout the year. The Sugar House Fireworks and Arts Festival on July 4th is a local favorite, and various concert series and seasonal activities bring neighbors together throughout the year.

Being located in the vibrant Sugar House area - known for its walkability and social vibe - only adds to Fairmont's charm as a neighborhood gathering place. Plus, with the TRAX line nearby, getting here is a breeze even without a car.
