About the Location

Slide Into Adventure

We'd like to talk about something cool - Fossil Falls Park blends modern fun with natural beauty in a way that's pretty special. The star of the show? A massive concrete slide that happens to be the largest in the western United States. It's seriously impressive and a blast for everyone, but a quick heads-up: this thing can get seriously fast.

Some park-goers suggest wearing jeans to slow yourself down a bit, and you might want to keep an extra eye on the little ones. What makes this park even more unique is its Minecraft-inspired rubble tile layout - the first of its kind anywhere. It adds this playful, contemporary vibe that sets the park apart from your typical playground.

Prehistoric Touches

Scattered within the park, you'll come across eight fossil installations that give the place its name and character. These educational features tie in perfectly with the park's location on Dinosaur Crossing Drive and offer some interesting stopping points as you explore.

They're subtle but fascinating reminders of the prehistoric world beneath our feet.

Play Paradise

The playground here isn't your average swing set situation. It has multiple structures that work well for different ages, with climbing equipment that's especially great for kids 10 and up. You'll discover traditional swings, various slides (some faster than others), and fun spinning equipment to enjoy.

A major plus is the shade structures covering many play areas, keeping equipment from turning into frying pans during hot days. Instead of wood chips, the playground uses rubber mats for safer landings when kids inevitably take a tumble. Just note that metal slides can still heat up in direct sunlight, particularly in summer - but the shaded areas remain comfortable year-round.

Get Active

If you're looking to be more active, there are two sand volleyball courts - great for impromptu games or planned meetups. There's also a large lighted gazebo available for rental that works wonderfully for picnics or small gatherings.

Across the park, you'll discover plenty of benches, picnic tables, and concrete seating areas where you can rest, chat, or just watch the world go by.

Natural Surroundings

One of the park's best features is its proximity to the Virgin River, adding a natural element that complements the designed spaces. A trail connects directly to the river, where you can wade in the shallow, sandy-bottomed water when conditions are right.

The park connects to the Virgin River bike trail system, providing access to miles of paths for cycling or walking throughout the area.

Practical Stuff

Fossil Falls comes equipped with four universal restrooms featuring flush toilets, soap dispensers, and hand dryers - basic but essential comforts for any outing. You'll also find drinking fountains and a water bottle filling station to keep everyone hydrated, especially important in St. George's warm climate.

The park welcomes visitors daily from 6AM to 10PM.

Behind the Scenes

Built using Park Impact funds at a cost of about $2.8 million, Fossil Falls Park was completed in recent years. The thoughtfully designed space is used by both St. George residents and visitors.
