About Mathis Park in St George
Mathis Park is a 19-acre neighborhood park located in St. George, Utah. Named in honor of the Mathis Family who donated farmland to the city, the park has undergone significant changes since its establishment. Although the original fishing pond and some park property were lost in a 2005 flood, the park was rebuilt in 2008 with several new features and upgrades.
The park offers a variety of recreational facilities for visitors. A covered pavilion with picnic tables and barbecues provides a shaded area for gatherings and outdoor meals. The park also features restroom facilities for visitor convenience. A loop walking trail encircles the park, offering opportunities for exercise and leisurely strolls.
Mathis Park includes three separate grass areas, providing open spaces for various activities. A shaded children's playground offers a safe and fun environment for younger visitors. The park has also incorporated 120 trees from the city's tree farm, planted in the grass areas and along the trail, enhancing the park's natural beauty and providing additional shade.
For sports enthusiasts, the park includes a disc golf course laid out inside the walking path. While the course does not have dedicated tee pads, most tees are located on the walking path. The disc golf baskets, while not brand new, are in decent condition and effectively catch discs.
Future improvements planned for Mathis Park include an additional covered pavilion, more playground equipment, and a splash pad, indicating the city's commitment to continually enhancing the park's amenities for community enjoyment.
