About the Location
Historic Background
Armory Tot Lot got its name because it was once the site of the National Guard's Armory Hall, which was built in 1880 and destroyed by fire in 1953.
Situated in Old Town Alexandria, this 0.18-acre park was developed into a children's playground in the early 1950s after the destruction of the Armory building. It has since been maintained as a play area for young children, particularly those in the 2-5 age range.
Playground Features
The park features a compact playground with various play structures designed for toddlers and young children. It includes a sandbox, which is a popular attraction for the youngest visitors.
The playground equipment is set on a wood chip surface, providing a soft landing area for active children. The park also offers a fenced-in area that provides a safe environment for children to play.
Location and Accessibility
Armory Tot Lot is known locally as a favorite spot for families with young children in the Old Town area. Its location, just two blocks south of Old Town's Market Square, makes it easily accessible for both residents and visitors exploring the historic district.
While the park is small, it includes some seating areas where parents and caregivers can relax while supervising their children.
