About Beverley Park
A Slice of Alexandria History
Situated in Alexandria's Beverly Hills neighborhood, Beverley Park has quite the backstory. What was once a simple gravel pit and staging area during the neighborhood's construction has blossomed into something much more meaningful. After the homes were built, this little patch of land got a complete makeover, transforming into the green space locals cherish today.
The park officially opened its gates on June 13, 1943, and has been a community fixture ever since. In 2017, it received a much-needed facelift that brought new life to this neighborhood treasure.
What You'll Find Here
One of the first things you'll notice about Beverley Park is its natural charm. The wooded areas provide welcome shade during those sweltering Virginia summers, creating a little nature escape without having to leave the city. There's plenty of open green space too - great for tossing a frisbee, having a picnic, or just sprawling out with a good book.
Winding around the park is a walking/biking loop that's ideal for a casual stroll or helping the little ones master their bicycle skills. When you're ready to take a break, you can claim one of the covered picnic tables for lunch or an afternoon snack.
Play Area That Keeps Kids Coming Back
The playground here is genuinely a hit with children between 5 and 15 years old. It's got all the classics: a jungle gym for climbing adventures and two slides for quick descents.
But the real showstopper? The zip line that has kids lining up for "just one more turn." There are also swings for traditional playground fun and a balance walk that challenges kids while helping them develop those all-important coordination skills.
The Practical Stuff
Beverley Park covers the basics with a water fountain where you can refill your bottle after working up a sweat. When nature calls, you'll come across porta-potty facilities on the grounds. Just a heads up - parking around the park can be tight, so you might want to consider walking if you live nearby.
A True Community Effort
The City of Alexandria keeps the park running smoothly, with meaningful support from the North Ridge Citizens Association, which has adopted the park as one of their community projects.
Many locals consider the park a quiet retreat within Alexandria's park system. It's not the biggest or flashiest park around, but that's part of what makes it special.
