About the Location
Natural Setting
Brookvalley Park is a scenic green space spanning approximately 15 acres along Holmes Run, a tributary of the Potomac River. The park's most notable natural feature is the Bicentennial Tree, which is considered the oldest tree in Alexandria and serves as a living landmark within the park.
The location along Holmes Run contributes to the park's role as a valuable ecological corridor within the urban environment of Alexandria.
Trail Network
The park offers a network of trails that connect it to neighboring areas, including Holmes Run Scenic Easement to the north, All Veterans Park to the southwest, and Tarleton Park to the southeast. These trails provide opportunities for walking, jogging, and cycling through the natural landscape.
Recreation Amenities
Brookvalley Park includes several playground areas spread along its nearly 2.5-mile stretch. These play areas cater to different age groups and are located at various points within the park, including near Holmes Run Trail and along Holmes Run Parkway.
Community Gardens
For those interested in gardening, the park features community garden plots on its western side. These plots can be rented from the local 4-H club, allowing residents to cultivate their own small gardens within the public park space.
The park is open from 8AM to 5PM Monday through Friday, and closed on weekends.
