About Marshview Park
Natural Setting
Found in the Oceanfront district of Virginia Beach, Marshview Park spans a generous 100 acres of natural beauty. Nestled between the Lands End Condominiums, Salt Marsh Point, Seatack, and Shadowlawn neighborhoods, this green oasis offers a refreshing escape from the typical beach scene.
Centered around Lake Rudee, the park creates an ideal balance between recreational fun and untouched nature. The wooded areas aren't just pretty - they're alive with wildlife and peaceful views of the marshlands. If you're into bird watching, the small river running through the park provides an ideal spot to catch glimpses of local feathered residents going about their day.
Trails and Recreation
The park features an extensive network of trails for various activities and skill levels. The mountain biking trail system - created in partnership with the Eastern Virginia Mountain Biking Association (EVMA) - stretches 4-5 miles with options for every skill level.
These bike trails include flow sections, jumps, skinny bridges, a rock garden, and technical features that challenge experienced riders while still offering routes for beginners. With trailhead maps, clear signage, and mile markers throughout, you won't have to worry about getting lost while having fun.
If biking isn't your thing, the paved walking paths accommodate wheelchairs and casual strollers alike. The wooded trails offer a more immersive experience, and the generous tree canopy provides welcome shade that makes summer workouts much more bearable.
Park Amenities
Beyond the trails, Marshview Park offers several recreational options. The tennis courts do double duty as pickleball courts on weekends, attracting players of both sports. When you're ready for a break, shaded picnic areas with tables make perfect spots to enjoy lunch surrounded by nature.
Families with kids will appreciate the well-maintained playgrounds suitable for various age groups. The little ones might especially enjoy the small aquatic-themed sculptures near one of the playground areas - they're just the right size for toddlers to safely climb and explore.
Dog-Friendly Features
If you're a dog owner, you'll find this park particularly welcoming. Multiple fenced dog park areas (4-5 separate enclosures) allow your furry friends to play off-leash with others of similar size and temperament.
Even beyond these dedicated spaces, leashed dogs are welcome throughout the trail system, making Marshview a favorite destination for anyone looking to get some exercise alongside their four-legged companions.
Facilities
Getting to and around the park is convenient with parking lots available at various entrances. Cyclists will appreciate the thoughtful addition of bike repair stations across the grounds. Portable restrooms (including wheelchair-accessible options) are available near the dog park area.
Just a heads-up: during summer, the wooded areas can get buggy, and after rain or snow melt, expect some muddy patches on unpaved sections. You should also keep an eye out for poison ivy on some trees in the natural areas.
Recent Improvements
The park got a nice refresh in 2020-2021 with the completion of Phase I of the Marshview Master Plan. These enhancements brought better trail markings, expanded facilities, and more recreational options that have noticeably improved the overall experience.
Open daily from 7AM to 7:30PM, Marshview Park sits just minutes from the Virginia Beach oceanfront, offering a peaceful natural retreat when you need a break from the bustling boardwalk energy.
