About the Location
Park History
Tucked just north of downtown Bellevue, Washington lies Georgia Zumdieck Park - a 4.15-acre natural sanctuary that offers a peaceful escape from city life. This peaceful escape, formerly known as Bovee Park, was renamed by the Bellevue City Council on May 18, 2015, giving it the identity it carries today.
Amenities and Features
If you're looking to work on your backhand, the park offers a pair of tennis courts where you can rally to your heart's content. Open from 7AM to 8PM, these courts do fill up quickly during nice weather - don't be surprised if you find yourself waiting during weekend afternoons.
Want to stretch your legs? Gravel paths meander through the grounds, creating a modest 0.25-mile loop that guides you through a charming urban forest. The trails are generally well-kept, however be prepared for the occasional spider web or muddy patch after rainy days (this is Washington, after all).
For the little ones, there's a recently updated playground area that's ideal for burning off energy. The play space features four swings (two designed for infants, two for bigger kids and adults), fun jungle gym structures, an engaging sensory area, and even a small zip line that never fails to delight. It's especially ideal for children around six and under, who can spend hours exploring all the playground has to offer.
Additional Facilities
Several picnic tables are scattered across the park, with some conveniently placed near the playground so you can keep an eye on the kids while enjoying your lunch. When thirst strikes, there's a water fountain complete with a bottle filling station to keep you hydrated.
Nature calls? Restrooms are available seasonally, with separate single-stall facilities for men and women. They're typically clean and well-maintained when open.
The park also features inviting open grassy areas excellent for tossing a frisbee, playing fetch with your four-legged friend, or simply sprawling out with a good book. While there's no designated dog park, the space is pet-friendly and you'll often see locals walking their dogs through the grounds.
Atmosphere and Accessibility
What makes Georgia Zumdieck Park special is how it manages to feel worlds away from downtown Bellevue despite being so close. Mature trees cast cooling shade and create a sense of seclusion - almost like you've discovered a woodland retreat within city limits.
The park is designed to be accessible to everyone, with features that accommodate visitors of all abilities. It's easy to reach whether you're a local or just visiting Bellevue, with straightforward access from I-405. Parking is somewhat limited, which actually helps preserve the quiet neighborhood feel that makes this park so special.
