About the Location
Lakefront Paradise
Next to the shores of Lake Washington, Newcastle Beach Park stands as Bellevue's largest beach park. This spacious park offers a blend of recreational opportunities and natural beauty that might have you staying longer than planned.
The sandy beach area is a highlight, where you can relax on the sand while taking in views of Lake Washington. Want to venture further into the water? A 300-foot dock extends into the lake, well-suited for fishing or acting as your personal diving board. During summer months, lifeguards keep watch, so you can swim with peace of mind.
Water Recreation
Fancy a paddle? The park includes a launch area specifically for non-motorized watercraft, so you can bring your kayak or paddleboard and explore Lake Washington from a different perspective.
The swimming area comes with ropes marking the safe zones - though many find jumping (feet first!) off the dock to be the highlight of their visit. The water clarity is impressive, making those hot summer days much more bearable with a refreshing dip.
Trails and Open Spaces
If you're not in the mood to get wet, take a wander along the nature trail that meanders through wooded areas. It's a well-maintained loop that's meant for a casual stroll while taking in the local greenery and wildlife.
Need some space to spread out? The park boasts generous grassy areas that practically beg for picnic blankets, impromptu soccer games, or just lounging with a good book. These open fields provide plenty of room for families to play together or for you to find your own quiet corner.
Family-Friendly Amenities
Kids will enjoy the playground area with its train-themed equipment. The playground offers swings and climbing structures, all conveniently situated near the beach and shaded by trees - meaning parents can keep an eye on little ones while relaxing in the shade.
Come mealtime, you'll come across several picnic areas throughout the park, including one with a shelter and BBQ facilities. The covered pavilion is especially handy for larger gatherings and can be reserved ahead of time - excellent for those family reunions or birthday celebrations.
Scenic Beauty
The views at Newcastle Beach Park are notable. Lake Washington against the Cascade Mountains creates a picturesque backdrop. Early risers might catch a breathtaking sunrise over the water, while evening visitors can enjoy equally spectacular sunsets. Keep your eyes peeled for bald eagles fishing or water fowl navigating the lake during migration seasons.
The park has a peaceful atmosphere - a good spot to take a break from busy routines, even if just for a short visit.
Visitor Information
Practical matters are well handled here with clean restroom facilities that you'll actually want to use. There's ample parking available, but it fills up quickly on those perfect summer weekends, so arriving early is a good strategy.
Note that dogs aren't allowed in the park from June 1st through September 15th. During the rest of the year, your four-legged friends are welcome, and you'll find waste stations with bags conveniently placed across the grounds.
You might want to pack some bug spray, especially if you're planning an evening visit when mosquitoes tend to make their presence known. The park welcomes visitors daily from 6AM to 9PM year-round.
