About the Location

Recreation Facilities

At the heart of Highlands Park sits a spacious gymnasium with spectator seating - ideal for shooting hoops or cheering on local games. Right next door, you'll discover a flexible multipurpose room with a kitchenette (just a heads up: no oven included, so leave those cookie-baking plans at home).

These indoor spaces host everything from birthday celebrations to neighborhood meetings. The park's 11,906 square foot neighborhood center is active year-round. Parents in the area appreciate the children's programs - the gymnastics and soccer classes receive positive feedback from local families.

Outdoor Amenities

Step outside and you'll discover a versatile multi-use field where spontaneous games of ultimate frisbee and organized soccer practices peacefully coexist. The park got an exciting upgrade in July 2021 with the addition of a mini-pitch - a collaborative gift from the city of Renton, Seattle Sounders FC RAVE Foundation, King County Parks, Renton Public Schools, Highlands Elementary School, and Premera Blue Cross.

This compact soccer area is well-used by the neighborhood. You'll also find outdoor sport courts where friendly competitions of tennis and basketball unfold throughout the week.

Playground and Recreation

The playground might not be the biggest in town, but it offers just enough climbing, sliding, and swinging opportunities to keep the younger crowd entertained. It's an ideal spot for kids to burn off energy after a class or for families to spend a relaxed afternoon together amidst the park's natural beauty.

Bring your four-legged friends along too - the park is dog-friendly, however remember to pack those waste bags and keep the grounds clean for everyone's enjoyment.

Picnic Areas

When hunger strikes, head to one of the picnic areas complete with barbecue facilities. These spots feel particularly serene on weekdays when the crowds thin out - nothing beats enjoying a sandwich or grilling up lunch with a backdrop of open green space and the gentle hum of community life.

Facilities

Note that the park offers porta potty restrooms for when nature calls. Overall, Highlands Park and Neighborhood Center offers both recreational opportunities and a peaceful green space in Renton.
