About the Location
A Touch of History
Situated in Seattle's Central District, Firehouse Mini Park is a charming pocket of green with a story to tell. This little green space sits where Firehouse No. 23 once stood from 1910 to 1964. When a larger facility was built to cover the expanded service area, this spot transformed into the cozy park we see today.
Fun Features
The absolute star of this park is its double-decker tree house complete with an authentic fire pole - an ideal nod to its firefighting past. Many neighborhood kids enjoy this unique play structure, which offers both climbing fun and a connection to the site's history.
Despite not taking up much real estate, this park makes excellent use of its space. A wide unit paver sidewalk winds through the grounds, making it easy to navigate for visitors of all abilities. There's also a lovely open grass area bordered by planting beds, offering a touch of greenery amid the urban landscape.
Natural Shade and Greenery
The park's mature trees - including London Plane, Vine Maple, and Red Maple - create a natural canopy that's especially welcome on Seattle's sunny days. These leafy giants not only provide cooling shade but also give the park an intimate, secluded feel that makes you forget you're in the middle of the city.
Community Treasure
This quiet little park has become an important gathering spot for Central District neighbors. It's particularly well-suited for families with young children who appreciate the unique playground equipment, however anyone seeking a moment of tranquility will find something to love here.
Exciting changes are on the horizon as the park is currently undergoing a renovation project. Plans include replacing the aging play equipment and improving accessibility features. The only thing that might make this spot even better would be additional seating options - a small improvement that could make a big difference for all visitors.
