About Garfield Playfield
A Bit of History
Once upon a time, this 7.3-acre green space was called "Walla Walla" after a Native American tribe. In 1923, it got a presidential upgrade when it was renamed to honor James A. Garfield, America's 20th President. Today, it's a popular community space with numerous outdoor recreation options in the heart of Seattle.
What You'll Find Here
Garfield Playfield is packed with options for the active types. You've got tennis courts for those sunrise matches, a football field with a track for your cardio days, and baseball/softball fields when you're feeling like America's favorite pastime.
Kids haven't been forgotten - a playground offers an excellent spot for little ones to burn off energy. The grassy areas are ideal for everything from casual frisbee games to simply sprawling out with a good book on sunny Seattle days.
You'll also find restroom facilities and drinking fountains throughout the park. Plus, Garfield Playfield isn't alone - it's part of a larger recreational complex alongside Garfield Community Center and Medgar Evers Pool.
