Marshall Park

History and Location

Tucked away in Seattle's Queen Anne neighborhood, Marshall Park is a little green space spanning just 0.78 acres. Though small in size, this urban retreat offers a tranquil atmosphere and sweeping views of the city and surrounding landscape.

Before becoming the Marshall Park we know today, this spot went by "Phelps Place" and was where locals would come to soak in the views, even before Queen Anne Boulevard got its glow-up. In 1960, the park was renamed to honor the Marshall family.

Scenic Viewpoints

A highlight of the park is the Betty Bowen Viewpoint, added in the late 70s. From here, you can gaze out over the sparkling waters of Puget Sound and take in the majestic Olympic Mountains rising in the distance. The impressive view often causes visitors to pause and take in the scenery.

Scattered throughout are several benches where you can plop down and soak in those panoramic vistas. This spot is considered one of Seattle's best locations to watch the sunset over Puget Sound, with colorful displays of orange and pink hues.

What many visitors miss is the unsigned artwork embedded in the concrete walkway. Keep your eyes peeled for pieces by Pacific Northwest artists like Guy Anderson, Kenneth Callahan, Morris Graves, Victor Steinbrueck, Charles Stokes, and Margaret Tompkins - a little cultural easter egg hunt amid your nature walk.
