Salmon Bay Park

Historic Origins

Salmon Bay Park is a 2.8-acre green space located in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. Originally deeded to the city of Ballard as a park by Elon W. Denton in 1890, it became part of Seattle's park system when Ballard was annexed in 1907.

The park features rolling hills among tall trees, providing a tranquil setting in an urban environment.

Playground Features

The park's playground, situated at the far end, is a popular attraction for families. It includes equipment for children of various age groups, with separate structures for ages 2-5 and 5-12.

The play area boasts multiple slides, a large net climber, balance and climbing elements, nature-themed play panels, log hops, and various swings including tot, belt, and adaptive options. A unique "climbable whirl" provides additional fun for visitors.

One of the most exciting features is a zip line, which has been retained from previous renovations.

Recent Renovations

Salmon Bay Park underwent significant renovations in recent years. The Seattle Parks and Recreation department initiated a project to upgrade the play area, improve accessibility, and enhance the overall park experience.

The renovation included the installation of new play equipment, ADA improvements, additional seating options, and upgrades to meet current safety standards.

Community Space

The park serves as a community gathering space, hosting various events throughout the year. Its picnic tables, scattered over grassy hills, provide ideal spots for outdoor meals and social gatherings.
