About Thyme Patch Park in Seattle
Thyme Patch Park is a small urban green space nestled in the West Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. Established in 2003, this compact park combines elements of a neighborhood park with a community garden, creating a unique blend of public space and horticultural education.
The park is divided into two distinct sections. The southern half houses 14 P-Patch community garden plots, where local residents can rent space to grow their own vegetables and flowers. The northern portion of the park features a landscaped display garden maintained by Master Gardeners, showcasing various plants found in Seattle neighborhoods.
Thyme Patch Park serves as an educational platform, integrating aspects of home garden design, plant selection, pruning, and maintenance in a home-like landscape setting. This makes it an excellent resource for both experienced gardeners and those new to horticulture.
Visitors entering the park are greeted by a hand-crafted steel handrail created by artist Chuck Nafziger, adding a touch of local artistry to the space. The park's compact size and thoughtful design make it an ideal spot for quiet contemplation, learning about gardening, or simply enjoying a slice of nature within the urban environment.
