Park Overview

Located in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood, Wallingford Playfield covers 4.5 acres of urban greenspace that's become something of a neighborhood gathering spot over the years. It's where locals gather, whether for planned events or just to enjoy a bit of nature in the city.

The centerpiece of the park is its expansive grassy field - ideal for everything from impromptu soccer matches to lazy Sunday picnics. Playground and Wading Pool

In 2019, the playground got a complete makeover, and it shows. The refreshed play area caters to little ones from toddlers to pre-teens (ages 2-12), with equipment that's designed to be inclusive for all abilities. Everything meets Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, so every child gets their chance to play.

The playground itself is a hit with families, featuring everything from classic swings and slides to more creative elements like musical drums for budding percussionists. Kids seem especially drawn to the sandbox and the climbing structures that offer just the right level of challenge for developing muscles and confidence. The playground is well-suited for children in the 2-8 age range.

When summer heats up, so does the popularity of the park's wading pool. This shallow splash zone is popular with families looking to cool down without going to the beach. Park staff occasionally bring out water toys, adding to the fun. Just note that the pool operates seasonally, so check opening dates if you're planning a summer visit.

Natural Features and Amenities

Alongside the park's western edge runs a short but steep native plant garden, adding a touch of Pacific Northwest wilderness to this neighborhood space. It's a small but thoughtful addition that brings some natural beauty into the urban setting.

You'll discover plenty of spots to take a load off around the park - picnic tables nestled among trees, benches positioned for people-watching, and even sitting boulders that seem perfectly placed for contemplating life or supervising playground adventures. Several picnic tables are conveniently located near the restrooms for family outings.

Recreational Facilities

Beyond the open fields, Wallingford Playfield offers tennis courts that anyone can use on a first-come basis, or you can reserve them through Seattle's parks department if you're planning a match. Fair warning: the courts have seen better days, with some cracks where determined grass pokes through.

A crushed rock path loops around the entire playfield, connecting with pathways on the eastern side and creating a nice circuit for a casual stroll or morning jog.

The park provides public restrooms that are open during regular park hours. They're reliably available, but they sometimes reflect the challenges of maintaining heavily-used public facilities.
