A Piece of Spokane History

Dating back to 1938, Comstock Park has been Spokane's go-to green space for more than 80 years now. Unlike the contemplative, sit-and-ponder parks of earlier times, Comstock emerged during the 1930s when park designers started focusing on getting people moving and playing - a philosophy that still shapes the park today.

What You'll Find

Situated in South Hill on the city's south side, this nearly 25-acre oasis offers a refreshing break from urban life without actually leaving the city. With its gently rolling landscapes and canopy of mature trees, Comstock offers a nice balance between natural beauty and recreational areas.

Concrete paths wind lazily throughout the grounds, making this spot ideal for your morning jog, afternoon stroll, or simply hitting your step goal for the day. The impressive old-growth trees cast cooling shadows across the well-kept lawns - a blessing during those warmer Spokane afternoons.

Get Moving

At the heart of Comstock's recreational offerings is its aquatics center, which has been a summer fixture since the park first opened. If land sports are more your thing, you'll find well-maintained tennis courts and pickleball courts.

The park doesn't stop there - basketball courts and a baseball field cater to team sport enthusiasts. The perimeter trails make for excellent walking routes, where you'll often spot locals getting their exercise or walking their four-legged friends (leashed, of course).

Family Fun

The playground area hits the sweet spot with equipment that keeps kids entertained while being properly maintained for safety. Multiple swing sets accommodate both the little ones and older children, but it's particularly well-suited for kids 5 and up. Parents can keep a watchful eye from nearby benches, and the convenient proximity to restrooms means fewer emergency dashes across the park.

Gathering with friends and family? The numerous picnic areas with spacious tables provide perfect spots for outdoor meals. You can even fire up the grilling facilities or use the large outdoor fireplace - making Comstock an ideal backdrop for everything from impromptu lunch dates to birthday celebrations and community get-togethers.

Community Space

Over the years, Comstock Park has become an important gathering space for the area, adapting to changing community needs while maintaining its neighborhood park character. Many South Hill residents come here, whether for organized activities or simply to enjoy some nature amid the city.

Note that while permanent restrooms are available (especially during pool season), you might occasionally find them locked with portable toilets as the only option. The park welcomes visitors daily from 6AM to 10PM, giving you plenty of time to enjoy everything this historic green space has to offer.
