About the Location

Park Overview

Located in Spokane, Washington, Prairie View Park is a community favorite that's been serving locals since 2006. The park grew a bit in 2012 with an additional 10.2 acres, bringing it to a 17.6-acre spread. About 7.4 acres have been transformed into an inviting community space complete with an aquatic facility that's excellent for those hot summer days.

Just off the Palouse Highway, this park is a convenient escape for South Hill residents and folks from the rural Palouse area. The developed and landscaped grounds have a variety of activities and features. While parking is plentiful, you might want to arrive early on those perfect summer weekends when it tends to fill up quickly.

Recreational Amenities

A highlight of Prairie View is its family aquatic center - particularly refreshing when temperatures climb. With fun water slides that are particularly great for the younger crowd, it's worth the small admission fee to see those smiles on your kids' faces.

For sports enthusiasts, the park offers several options. The park houses well-maintained baseball fields (though you might want to bring an umbrella for shade), sand volleyball courts for your beach-style games without the beach, pickleball courts for the fastest-growing sport in America, and a basketball court where you can shoot some hoops.

Need a more relaxed experience? Take a stroll on the paved trails that loop around the park, or claim one of the picnic shelters for your family gathering. There are two dedicated picnic areas - grab one near the playground to keep an eye on the little ones, or choose the one by the volleyball courts to cheer on your amateur athletes.

Family-Friendly Features

If you've got kids in tow, the extensive playground area is sure to be a hit. It accommodates various age groups and includes a horseshoe-shaped climbing wall standing about 8 feet tall - providing a good challenge for kids.

The play structure is popular with South Hill families, who frequently visit on weekends. And when the playground equipment gets too crowded, there's plenty of open grassy space for impromptu games of tag or frisbee.

Facilities

The park provides flushable restrooms, though keep in mind they aren't always open year-round. Since you won't find many convenience stores or gas stations nearby, it's smart to bring along whatever snacks and supplies you might need.

Your four-legged friends are welcome to join the fun, but remember to keep them leashed at all times. The park welcomes visitors daily from 5 AM to 11 PM, giving you plenty of time to enjoy all it has to offer.

Development History

Prairie View Park got an additional boost in 2016-2017 thanks to grant funding from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office, allowing for expanded amenities that continue to serve the community today.
