About the Location

Park Overview

Set in Vancouver, Washington, Hockinson Meadows Community Park sprawls across 240 acres of green space. Developed in 2008-2009 as part of the Greater Clark Parks District initiative, about 70 acres were initially transformed into the recreational space we enjoy today.

Sitting at Vancouver's northeast urban edge, this park serves around 25,000 local residents who previously had nowhere nearby to toss a frisbee or enjoy a family picnic. It filled a significant gap in local recreation options.

Why It Matters

Both Vancouver city officials and Clark County planners identified Hockinson Meadows as their top-priority community park project for the entire Vancouver urban area. Its strategic location made it essential for serving this growing community.

Facilities and Activities

Whether you're a sports enthusiast or just looking to unwind, Hockinson offers a variety of options. The park features five baseball fields, two softball fields, and a spacious soccer field - all well-maintained throughout the year.

From baseball and t-ball to soccer matches, there's space for both organized leagues and casual weekend games. Need a break from the action? The park offers open meadows well-suited for flying kites or tossing a ball, along with picnic areas complete with tables.

Planning a gathering? The covered picnic shelter can be reserved for everything from family reunions to birthday celebrations.

Playground

The playground here primarily caters to the 5-12 crowd with equipment that keeps energetic kids engaged for hours. Your little climbers will love scaling the rock wall, while thrill-seekers can test out the slanted turntable and bouncy equipment.

While there are a few toddler swings available, most structures are better suited for older children. The afternoon shade from nearby trees makes this playground a more comfortable option during summer months.

And the path circling the playground? It's fantastic for those wobbly first attempts at bike riding without training wheels.

Trails and Nature

Lace up your walking shoes - Hockinson's network of trails offers something for everyone. Paved paths provide smooth sailing for wheelchairs, strollers, and bikers, while dirt trails invite you to explore the more secluded conservation areas.

A gentle creek meanders through parts of the park, adding a soothing soundtrack to your walk. The wooded sections create almost a forest-like feel, especially in summer when the trees form a lush green canopy overhead.

Keep your eyes peeled for local birds and occasional wildlife that call this place home.

Disc Golf Course

Disc golf enthusiasts, you've found your spot. The 18-hole course here has developed quite a following, offering a satisfying mix of technical shots and opportunities to really let your disc fly.

The course weaves through both open meadows and wooded areas, creating a diverse playing experience. Fair warning: the course can get crowded, especially on weekends.

If you're hoping for a quicker round without waiting at every tee, try arriving early in the morning when the dew is still fresh.

Dog Park

Your four-legged friends haven't been forgotten. The off-leash dog area sits in a quieter corner of the park where pups can run, play, and make new friends.

Plenty of trees offer welcome shade during warmer months, while benches let you relax while your dog burns off energy. Water stations and waste disposal areas help keep the space clean and comfortable for everyone.

Additional Amenities

The practical stuff matters too:

Multiple parking lots strategically placed around the park

Portable restrooms that are regularly maintained

Drinking fountains near the athletic fields

Benches along walking paths for when you need a moment to rest

From active sports to peaceful nature walks, Hockinson Meadows Community Park blends recreational facilities with natural beauty in a space that truly has something for everyone.
