About Van Vleet Park
History and Origins
Situated in Vancouver's Northwood neighborhood, Van Vleet Park spans a cozy 2.8 acres of green space. This little community space actually has quite the backstory - it was originally part of a planned community built by the Vancouver Housing Authority in the Heights area after World War II wrapped up.
The park bears the name of Lewis Van Vleet, an early Clark County surveyor who was the original owner of this land. More than just a surveyor, Lewis also served as a representative in the territorial legislature. A cool historical tidbit: his daughter Louisa broke barriers in 1887 by becoming Clark County's very first female doctor!
Park Layout and Features
What you'll love about Van Vleet Park is its large open grassy area that gives you plenty of breathing room. No matter if you're tossing a frisbee, spreading out a picnic blanket, or just looking for a patch of green to relax on, there's space for whatever outdoor activity strikes your fancy.
