About the Location
River Views & Urban Oasis
Located next to the Columbia River in Vancouver, Washington, Waterfront Park spans 7.3 acres of thoughtfully designed public space. Since opening in September 2018, this park has transformed what was once an industrial area, becoming part of a larger 32-acre development along the riverside.
With half a mile of shoreline access, the park creates a natural bridge between downtown Vancouver and the majestic Columbia River. As you wander through, you'll notice how the design pays homage to the area's natural and cultural roots, all while serving up stunning views of the Columbia, Mount Hood, and the I-5 Bridge in the distance.
Can't-Miss Attractions
The Grant Street Pier is a prominent feature of the park - a cable-stayed structure that extends 90 feet over the Columbia River. This cable-stayed structure offers you a wonderful perch to take in sweeping views that seem to stretch forever.
Equally impressive is the Headwaters Wall, a fascinating interactive water feature created by artist Larry Kirkland. One side displays a bronze bas-relief map of the Columbia River Basin, while the other shows a topographical representation of the river's origins. Water cascades down into a shallow wading pool below - a hit with kids on warm days and a peaceful spot for reflection.
Space to Breathe
Around the park, you'll come across winding walking trails, open green spaces, and plenty of seating areas that invite you to pause and unwind. The landscaping features native plants and trees that not only support local wildlife but provide welcome shade during summer visits.
If you're planning to bring a meal, picnic tables near the parking lots offer prime riverside dining spots. The park is popular with photographers, particularly during sunset when light streams across the water and landscape.
Active Pursuits & Wildlife Watching
Waterfront Park connects seamlessly to the five-mile Waterfront Renaissance Trail, expanding your options for exploration. Whether you prefer walking, jogging, biking, or zipping along on an e-scooter, the scenic paths accommodate all kinds of movement.
Keep your eyes open for wildlife - ducks and geese are regular residents along the shoreline, while lucky visitors might spot eagles perched in the trees during warmer months. The rocky beach area also draws fishing enthusiasts hoping for a catch.
Beyond the Park
You'll find downtown Vancouver just a short walk away, with its array of restaurants, shops, and attractions that make it easy to extend your outing. Make a day of it by exploring the park before heading into town for a meal.
The park welcomes visitors daily from 5AM to 10PM, meant for early birds and sunset chasers alike. Several parking lots serve the area, although spaces can fill up quickly on weekends, holidays, or particularly beautiful days, so arriving early is always a good strategy.
