About Wintler Park

Riverside Escape

Located next to the banks of the Columbia River, Wintler Park spans a peaceful 12.5 acres of waterfront beauty in Vancouver, Washington. The park features a sandy beach area - one of the few public freshwater beaches you'll find in the region. The fine sand is good for everything from sandcastle building to simply lounging with your toes in the water. When summer temperatures climb, the beach becomes a natural gathering spot for swimming and cooling off in the river's refreshing waters.

Paths for Wandering

Feel like stretching your legs? The park's network of paved walking paths winds through the grounds, providing nice river views throughout. If you're out for a morning jog or an evening stroll, these paths provide a great route. They connect to the broader Waterfront Trail system that extends about four miles to downtown Vancouver, making it easy to extend your adventure if you're feeling ambitious.

When hunger strikes, you can find tables and grassy areas scattered around the park - ideal spots to spread out a picnic blanket or unpack a lunch. It's pleasant to enjoy a sandwich with the Columbia River flowing peacefully in the background.

For Fishing Enthusiasts

If fishing is your thing, you'll appreciate the park's fishing dock. The Columbia is known for salmon and steelhead runs, but as with any fishing spot, some days are more productive than others. It's worth bringing your gear and trying your luck, even if it's just an excuse to spend more time by the water.

Unexpected Sightlines

Here's something you might not expect - Wintler Park sits directly across from Portland International Airport (PDX). You can watch planes take off and land across the river from PDX while relaxing on the beach. On clear days, you can even catch a glimpse of majestic Mount Hood rising behind the I-205 bridge - a classic Pacific Northwest backdrop.

Bring Your Four-Legged Friends

Dog owners, rejoice! Wintler Park is delightfully dog-friendly. You'll regularly spot pups racing along the shoreline or braving a swim in the Columbia. While your furry friends are welcome, keeping them leashed is appreciated to ensure everyone enjoys their visit.

Practical Details

When nature calls, you can find restroom facilities available seasonally from spring through early fall. They're nothing fancy, but they get the job done when you're spending the day outdoors.

Getting There and Parking

Be aware that parking is somewhat limited, with just two small lots - one right next to the park and another upper lot near the train tracks. If you're visiting during peak times (especially summer weekends or holidays), plan to arrive early as spaces fill quickly. From May 1st through September 30th, there's a parking fee of $6 per day, which you can easily pay through the Parking Kitty App.

One quick note: access to the park crosses railroad tracks, so you might encounter brief delays from passing trains when entering or exiting. Just consider it part of the adventure!
