About the Location
A Slice of History on Green Bay's Shore
Right next to the east bank of the Fox River where it meets Green Bay, Bay Beach Amusement Park has been delighting visitors since 1892. Sprawling across 73 acres of lakeside land, this charming park has quite the backstory. It began life as Bay View Beach, a private resort, until around 1920 when it was generously donated to the city. Now owned and operated by Green Bay itself, it's one of the few municipally-run amusement parks in America.
Thrills and Smiles for Everyone
The park features an array of rides that cater to both the thrill-seekers and the more cautious among us. The star of the show? The Zippin Pippin, a wooden roller coaster with its own fascinating journey, having been relocated all the way from Memphis, Tennessee.
Not up for the roller coaster? No problem. Take a spin on the Ferris wheel for panoramic bay views, bump into friends (literally) on the bumper cars, whirl away on the tilt-a-whirl, or accompany little ones on the variety of kiddie rides that dot the grounds.
Play Paradise for the Little Ones
One of the real treasures at Bay Beach is its recently added modern playground that has become a magnet for families. This isn't just any playground - it's one of the largest in the region, thoughtfully designed with soft flooring to cushion inevitable tumbles and equipment suitable for kids of all ages.
Children particularly love racing down the multiple slides and flying through the air on the three mini ziplines. The innovative layout provides plenty of room to run, climb, and explore, making it easy to while away an entire afternoon here.
Wallet-Friendly Fun
What makes Bay Beach especially refreshing is its approach to pricing. You won't pay a dime to enter the park or park your car. Instead, individual ride tickets cost just 25 cents each, with most attractions requiring between one to four tickets per person. The park welcomes visitors seasonally, typically opening its gates from May through September.
Beyond the Rides
The setting alone is worth the visit - the picturesque bayfront location offers beautiful views that enhance the whole experience. Beyond the rides, you'll discover concession stands for when hunger strikes, plus plenty of grassy areas well-suited for spreading out a picnic blanket. Just note that picnic tables can be limited on busy days. The park offers pavilions available for rent if you're planning a special event.
For facilities, portable restrooms with handwashing stations are available within the grounds, but there aren't permanent bathroom buildings.
Make a day of it by exploring the adjacent Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, a massive 600-acre urban wildlife refuge that perfectly complements your amusement park adventure with a dose of nature.
