About the Location
A Piece of Madison History
Found on Milton Street, this 1.67-acre site offers a breath of fresh air for the neighborhood. What we now know as Edward Klief Park started its journey in 1936 as the "Milton Street Playground" when Madison first acquired the land, later expanding it with additional purchases.
The park found its current identity on March 5, 1969, when it was renamed to honor Edward Klief (1882-1969), a dedicated Madison resident who championed the creation of this community space. Klief wasn't just a park enthusiast - he served as an Alderman in the old 11th ward from 1935 to 1937 and remained an active voice in local civic matters throughout his life.
What You'll Find There
Don't let the "mini park" label fool you - Edward Klief packs quite a punch in its modest footprint. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy both a basketball court and a volleyball court, ideal for friendly competitions or improving your game.
The open field area gives you plenty of space to throw a frisbee, kick a ball around, or simply let your dog stretch its legs. It's that versatile green space that every neighborhood needs.
If you're bringing the kids along, they'll make a beeline for the big playground with equipment that promises hours of fun. The thoughtfully designed play area makes this park a hit with families looking for a quick outdoor adventure.
Note that while you won't find restrooms here, there is drinking water available - a welcome feature after shooting hoops on a warm Wisconsin day.
