About the Location
Waterfront Paradise
Located on Madison's east side, Olbrich Park unfolds along the shores of Lake Monona, spanning over 90 acres of pure Wisconsin beauty. It's one of the city's largest lakefront parks and honestly, it's a popular spot for locals seeking both recreation and relaxation.
The park sits right next to the Olbrich Botanical Gardens, which means you can easily make a day of it - wander among stunning flowers and then stretch out by the lake for a completely different vibe. Talk about a fantastic combo!

Get Moving or Just Chill
Olbrich offers a little bit of everything when it comes to outdoor spaces. Between the sandy beach areas and wide-open fields, you've got plenty of options whether you're planning a laid-back picnic or something more active.
During summer months, the beach area becomes a hub for swimmers and sun-seekers. The Lake Monona shoreline is ideal for fishing or simply watching boats glide by. If you're feeling adventurous, seasonal boat rentals offer kayaks, canoes, or stand-up paddleboards to explore the water yourself.
Sports more your thing? The park has soccer fields, volleyball courts, basketball courts, and tennis courts scattered around the grounds. They've recently added pickleball courts too - because apparently that's the sport everyone and their grandmother is obsessed with these days.

Something for Every Season
What we love about Olbrich is that it doesn't hibernate when winter hits. The park transforms with a pretty awesome sledding hill where kids (and let's be honest, adults too) can zoom down when snow blankets the city. There's also a designated ice skating area when it's cold enough, and you'll often spot dedicated ice fishing enthusiasts dotting the frozen lake.
When you've got little ones in tow, the playgrounds offer a welcome diversion. And around the park, scenic overlooks provide those peaceful moments to just breathe and take in the lake views. The network of walking paths and trails means you can always find a new route for your morning jog or evening stroll.

Where Community Happens
Beyond recreation, Olbrich is a popular gathering spot in Madison. You'll see family reunions, impromptu gatherings, and friends meeting up for casual hangouts throughout the park.
The beer garden has become something of a local institution. Nothing beats grabbing a drink and maybe one of those massive pretzels from the biergarten during warmer months, then finding a spot to sit and watch the sunset over Lake Monona.
With its large size and variety of amenities, Olbrich Park has options for many interests. Whether you're looking for a peaceful nature moment or an active afternoon, you'll find clean facilities and plenty of parking available.
