This green getaway came to life in September 2017, born from a partnership between local groups and the city who shared a vision for creating something meaningful from neglected space.

What makes this park unique is how it works with nature, not against it. The design can capture up to 83,000 gallons of rainwater during downpours, helping prevent neighborhood flooding while keeping Lake Michigan's waters cleaner. It's practical eco-engineering with real benefits.

Where Community Happens

At the heart of Fondy Park stands a stage that brings the place to life with concerts, spoken word performances, and community events. It's the kind of space where music and voices echo between buildings and bring people together.

The community-designed tables scattered throughout create perfect spots to enjoy lunch from the market, challenge someone to a board game, or simply sit back with a book. Though not massive in size, the park functions well as a neighborhood gathering spot.

Fresh Food at Your Fingertips

Right next door, the Fondy Food Market adds another dimension to the park experience. Many Hmong farmers and local vendors set up shop here, creating a colorful display of just-picked produce - everything from vibrant tomatoes and beans to leafy greens, purple eggplants, and sweet corn.

Wednesdays tend to be particularly lively at the market, however what you'll discover varies with the seasons. There's something deeply satisfying about buying vegetables directly from the people who grew them just miles away.

The Practical Stuff

The park offers accessible restrooms with men's, women's, and handicapped facilities all conveniently at ground level - a thoughtful touch that makes the space truly welcoming for everyone. And your four-legged friends? They're welcome too. The park is dog-friendly, so feel free to bring your leashed pets, including service animals.

Beyond a Pretty Space

Fondy Park is included on Milwaukee's Lindsay Heights EcoTour, highlighting its sustainable urban design with solar energy, local food systems, and climate adaptation features. What started as a community project now attracts various groups from around the city.

The landscaping includes native trees, prairie grasses, and flowering plants that create a small ecosystem in the middle of the city. These natural elements add color and texture to the urban setting while providing environmental benefits to the neighborhood.
