Wilson Park

History and Overview

Found in the south side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Wilson Park spreads across 76 acres of green space in its namesake neighborhood.

Named after Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of the United States, the park was established in 1930 when the initial land was acquired. Over the decades, it's grown alongside the surrounding neighborhood, becoming an integral part of local life and identity.

Natural Features

A scenic lagoon forms the centerpiece of the park, with a popular 0.6-mile walking trail circling its shores. You'll often find locals getting their steps in here, whether they're walking, jogging, or cycling along this picturesque path.

The park features a mix of open meadows and wooded areas, creating diverse natural environments. This intentional landscape design accommodates everything from competitive sports to quiet afternoon strolls.

The lagoon attracts a variety of waterfowl, with geese being frequent residents within the grounds. It's a wonderful spot for nature contemplation and peaceful water views, but do keep a respectful distance from the wildlife during your visit.

Recreational Facilities

Just west of the main park, the Wilson Ice Arena offers indoor skating year-round. Whether you're into figure skating, ice dancing, or just enjoy casual gliding during public sessions, the arena is open year-round.

The park's pavilions and picnic areas with shelters can be reserved for gatherings. These spaces have amenities for outdoor events, suitable for family reunions and community get-togethers.

Wilson Park hosts community events and activities throughout all four seasons. When snow blankets the ground, the park's hills transform into perfect sledding spots, keeping the fun going even in winter months.

The park's Fourth of July parade has become a beloved local tradition, complete with entertainment, bike judging, and flag raising ceremonies. These community celebrations have become an important part of neighborhood life over the years.

Walking and Recreation
