Recreational Facilities

The park spans 25.3 acres of scenic landscapes, offering visitors a tranquil environment to enjoy various outdoor activities.

One of the notable features of Jaycee Park is the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center, which includes six lighted tennis courts. This facility provides ample opportunities for tennis enthusiasts to practice and play, even during evening hours.

The park also features a playground, making it an ideal destination for families with children. Additionally, Jaycee Park includes a disc golf course known as "The Hangar", which caters to players of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned professionals.

Historical Significance

An interesting historical element of Jaycee Park is the T-33 trainer plane, nicknamed "Shooting Star", which is displayed at the park's entrance. This aircraft was gifted to the City of Tuscaloosa by the Air Force in 1963 and was relocated from its original position to Jaycee Park by helicopter prior to the park's dedication ceremony on September 17, 1981.

The park is named in honor of Robert Ainsley Cardinal, Jr., who served as the Tuscaloosa Regional Airport Manager from 1968 until his untimely death in 1977. Cardinal played a significant role in the early development of the airport, overseeing the lengthening of runways and the construction of terminal facilities.
