About the Location

Park History

Robert Cardinal Park is a public recreational area located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Situated near the Tuscaloosa Regional Airport, the park was established on September 17, 1981.

The park is named after Robert Ainsley Cardinal, Jr., who served as the Tuscaloosa Regional Airport Manager from 1968 until his death in 1977. Cardinal was instrumental in the early development of the airport, overseeing runway extensions and facility construction.

Disc Golf Course

The park features a lightly wooded disc golf course known as "The Hangar", which offers a variety of shots suitable for players of all skill levels, from beginners to experienced pros.

The 18-hole course was established in 2021 and is known for its beginner-friendly layout on relatively flat terrain.

Notable Features

At the park's entrance, visitors can see a T-33 trainer plane called "Shooting Star", which was gifted to the City of Tuscaloosa by the Air Force in 1963.

This plane was previously located at Jaycee Park but was airlifted to the airport by helicopter prior to the park's dedication ceremony.

Recreation Opportunities

Robert Cardinal Park provides a space for various outdoor activities and relaxation. It serves as a place where families can enjoy picnics, children can play on the playground, and disc golf enthusiasts can practice their skills.
