About the Location

A Day at Heroes Park

Found in the heart of Glendale at 83rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road, Heroes Regional Park spreads across 81 acres of recreational bliss. This spacious park offers activities for all interests, whether you're looking to break a sweat or simply enjoy some fresh air.

A 47,000-square-foot gated area ensures a safe environment for all your adventures from 6AM to 10PM daily. The park balances bustling activity areas with quieter spaces - good for both weekend visits or quick weekday breaks.

Get Your Game On

The archery range is available for those interested in trying their hand at this precision sport. With 16 lanes and targets at varying distances (about 20, 30, and 40 yards), both beginners and seasoned archers can test their skills. Don't worry if you're just watching - there are shaded spots to relax while others show off their aim.

The park's 4-acre lake isn't just pretty to look at (though it certainly is). Stocked with trout, catfish, sunfish, and bass, it's a legitimate fishing destination right in the city. The waterscape fountain is particularly nice at night when its color-changing lights illuminate the area.

Need to stretch your legs? A 0.5-mile walking trail loops around the lake, with interactive markers that turn a regular walk into a mini-adventure for kids who can count and hop between signs.

Sports for Every Mood

The park doesn't skimp on sports facilities. Soccer fields, basketball courts, and volleyball courts accommodate both casual players and organized teams. Pickleball enthusiasts will appreciate the eight recently added lighted courts - great for evening games when the Arizona heat subsides.

For those who prefer wheels to balls, the skate park features impressive ramps for vert skating, while BMX facilities cater to the cycling crowd. During summer months (typically Memorial Day to Labor Day weekend), the splash pad sees heavy use as visitors cool off from the heat.

Across the grounds, you'll discover plenty of green spaces where you can simply spread out a blanket and enjoy being outdoors.

Something for Everyone

Heroes Park thoughtfully includes spaces designed for all age groups. Little ones have their own playgrounds and tot lots with equipment partially shaded from the intense Arizona sun. Different play areas cater to various age ranges, so everyone from toddlers to pre-teens can find their happy place.

Teens gravitate toward the skate park and BMX facilities, while adults often appreciate the walking paths and sporting venues. The park's thoughtful layout means families can find spots where everyone stays entertained.

Picnic Paradise

The park has good facilities for outdoor dining. Multiple ramadas offer shaded tables and BBQ grills for everything from impromptu lunches to planned cookouts. Eight gazebos surround the lake, providing scenic spots to enjoy your meal with a view.

Planning something bigger? Some picnic areas come equipped with kitchen-style setups including running water - useful for larger gatherings. These spaces can be reserved ahead of time for parties and events.

Beyond Recreation

Need a break from the sun? The on-site library offers a cool retreat with books, free WiFi, and a dedicated children's section. You can even pick up cultural passes here for adventures beyond the park.

Four-legged family members haven't been forgotten. The park includes a dog park with separate areas for different sized dogs. Just remember to bring your own water - the dog park doesn't always have water available inside the enclosure.

What's Coming Next

Heroes Park keeps getting better. Current upgrades include Glendale's first synthetic turf multi-use field and two natural grass multi-use fields that will expand options for sports and events.

Keep an eye out for the proposed recreation and aquatic center in the planning stages - it promises to add even more to this already impressive community space.

You might encounter some construction as these improvements take shape, but the temporary inconvenience will be worth the enhanced park experience to come.
