About the Location
Park Overview
Tucked away on 26.5 acres in Phoenix, Los Olivos Park isn't your typical desert green space. As the name suggests, this was once an olive grove, and those olive trees still define the park's character today.
The rows of silvery-leaved trees create a distinctly Mediterranean vibe that sets it apart from other Phoenix parks. We especially appreciate how they offer natural shade when Arizona's famous heat is doing its thing.
Recreation Facilities
If you're looking to stay active, the park has paved walking and running paths that meander across the grounds. You can find exercise stations dotted along these routes - ideal for mixing up your cardio with some strength training.
Got kids? The playground area features two separate structures designed with different age groups in mind: one for the tiny tots (ages 1-4) and another for the bigger kids (ages 4-10).
The sand base might mean you'll be shaking some out of shoes later, but the variety of equipment keeps children happily occupied.
One of the park's standout features is its 9-hole disc golf course that weaves through the olive trees. These natural obstacles make for an interesting game, and many players simply loop around twice for a full 18-hole experience.
It's particularly great if you're just getting into disc golf, but seasoned players will still find enough challenge to keep things interesting. The volleyball courts are well-maintained and tend to attract regular players, especially on weekends.
Amenities and Space
Los Olivos doesn't skimp on open space - there's plenty of room to toss a frisbee, kick around a soccer ball, or just spread out a blanket and relax under the trees.
You'll come across several picnic areas around the grounds, many equipped with grilling stations for impromptu cookouts. While there are covered picnic tables available, they're hot commodities, especially on weekends.
If you're planning a gathering, you might want to arrive early to claim one of these shaded spots. The park maintains restroom facilities near the playground and picnic areas.
They're generally clean by public park standards - nothing fancy, but they do the job.
Community Features
Los Olivos is not only recreation space; it's also home to a Senior Center offering various activities for older adults. From workout equipment to social events, it's a hub for the community's seniors.
Environmentally conscious? The park houses an Eco Station where you can drop off recyclables like cardboard, plastic, and aluminum cans.
Pet Policy
Dog owners, rejoice! Los Olivos is extremely pet-friendly, welcoming leashed dogs across the park. The paths and open areas are well-suited for walking your four-legged friends, and you'll often see dog owners gathering in the early mornings for some socialization - both human and canine.
While there's no dedicated dog park or fenced area, there's plenty of space for on-leash exercise. Just remember to clean up after your pet to keep the park enjoyable for everyone.
