Ehrhardt Park

A Bit of History

Established back in 1977, Ehrhardt Park takes its name from Walter Ehrhardt, who made his way to Arizona in 1929. Over the decades, this green space has evolved into a cherished spot where locals gather, families play, and everyone can enjoy a piece of outdoor tranquility in Tempe.

Fresh Upgrades

The park has seen some pretty cool improvements in recent years. A notable addition is the tree-house themed playground designed for kids ages 2-12. The playground features rubber ground cover instead of sand or wood chips - a cleaner option that many parents appreciate.

Play & Exercise Options

Little ones can romp around in the shaded playground area, protected from Arizona's intense sun. While the kids play, adults can use the adjacent fitness stations for their own exercise. These calisthenics stations include everything from pull-up bars to sit-up benches, dip bars, and stall bars. It functions as a mini outdoor gym within the park.

Picnic Perfect

Packing a lunch? You can find four covered picnic tables scattered across the park - ideal for everything from impromptu sandwiches to birthday celebrations. The shade these areas provide is a welcome relief, especially during warmer months. Beyond the picnic zone, there's a spacious grassy field that's meant for frisbee, catch, or just letting the kids burn off some energy.

Growing Community

One of the park's quiet locations is the Friendship Evergreen Community Garden. This one-acre space came to life through a partnership between Friendship Village Tempe and the City of Tempe. With 56 gardening plots available to the public, it's a place where green thumbs can flourish. While you might not always have access to wander through the garden (especially on weekends), it's still worth admiring from the pathways.

Good to Know

Ehrhardt Park is generally well-maintained and clean. One thing to note: there are no public restrooms here, so you might want to plan accordingly before heading out for an afternoon of play.
