About Clark Park in Tempe
Clark Park, located in Tempe, Arizona, is a 10-acre community space that has been a beloved fixture since 1949. The park underwent a significant revitalization during the pandemic, breathing new life into this cherished local landmark.
The park features a newly renovated community center and pool facility. The pool area includes a zero-depth entry, a 17-foot spiral water slide, five lap lanes, and several shade structures, providing a refreshing retreat for visitors during hot Arizona days.
Clark Park serves as a central hub for several neighborhood associations and offers a variety of recreational opportunities. The park's green spaces are ideal for picnics, sports, and outdoor events, contributing to the community's active lifestyle.
A notable feature of Clark Park is the Matt Mantei Little League Ballfield, which was dedicated on September 26, 2003, as part of the "Field of Dreams" program by Diamondbacks Charities and APS. This addition enhanced the park with new lights, fencing, backstops, and an electronic scoreboard.
The park's history is closely tied to Ken Clark, born in Abilene, Texas in 1907, who relocated to Tempe with his family. Clark's contributions to the community, including his service on the Tempe City Council from 1943-36, are commemorated in the park that bears his family name.
